With all of the hullabaloo preparing our Christmas Concert and finding out that Washie was yet another Japanese import (Maddie is not in the least surprised...she always figured he was some sort of changling), we almost forgot to show you our Christmas present!
It's awesome...kinda like jute on the top that Macks rubs catnip in for an extra good time. It's perfect for a good scratch and even for just sittin' on!
Washie, in a catnip-induced frenzy, is working out his mixed emotions after finding out about his long-lost Japanese relations...

I'm so happy for you both that you love your new present. We received our presents in the mail yesterday and love them every bit as much as Washington CLEARLY loves his. We've come up with a list of four names that would be better-suited than Joan Baez, by the way: Dexter Gordon, Lena Horne, Django Reinhardt and Dizzie Gillespie. The problem is this: *most* of the people on the card are jazz greats, but then you've got Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin confusing matters beyond just the Joan Baez situation. So is #5 a jazz great? Or do we pick a pop singer like Frank Sinatra? Or do we remove Aretha & Bob and replace them so it's all jazz? You cats want to advise us on this one?
And, by the way, we loved Garo's writing, as always, and were touched by the perfect thoughtfulness (and practical goodness) of our gifts. How did you remember Provenance? Thank you!!!
Your Baez substitutions are all good. I'd feel churlish to disallow Django on the grounds that he's not American, but there's no quibbling at all with Dizzy Gillespie. And Sinatra would be truly superb choice for your fifth.
I'd be inlcined myself to draw on a wider range of American musical traditions: say Bill Monroe for bluegrass; Hank Williams Sr or the Carter Family for country; Robert Johnson or Bessie Smith for blues; Otis Redding or Al Green for soul; and though I've never been a huge fan, if you're going to nod to rock & roll Elvis Presley belongs on that list.
Completely agreed on all of the above, including the Elvis comments.
